8 year old Solomon was infected with HIV as a fetus, and was infected by drug resistant TB by his older sister, who was a GHC patient. Rapid screening of Solomon was perfomed when he became ill and medicines for drug resistant TB were promptly instituted. This photo was taken in December 2012 at St Peter’s Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia shortly before his discharge home.

14 year old Mikiyas – here shown with his grandmother – suffering from HIV and drug resistant TB. Out of school for a year because of his illness and recently orphaned after the death of his mother from AIDS and TB. Now, on his way to cure of drug resistant TB in the GHC program, living with his grandmother, and studying to catch up in school to reach his dream of being an artist or a doctor.
